Hlanganani Capital is a black controlled private investment and advisory entity primarily focusing on arranging, participating in and managing private equity investments primarily in the mining, engineering, and related service sectors.
We are focused on delivering significant shareholder value through sound strategic investment practice, whilst contributing to the transformation of the economy and society at large.
Hlanganani Capital was set up by Rowan Smith, Farouk Abrahams, Anton Millar and Olivier Barbeau.
The strategy is to invest on a partnership basis in a diversified portfolio that takes advantage of the growth prospects offered in sub-Saharan Africa.
The investment focus is on true private equity investment and then to focus with management on utilising a vast network including other investors to maximise the value of the investments for all stakeholders.
The focus is on equity investments with a longer term investment horizon.

Farouk Abrahams has over 14 years experience in the Mining Industry. He was the Financial Director of the South African Mining Development Association (SAMDA) and this capacity works closely with all stakeholders in the Mining Industry.
Has over 14 years experience in Investment and Merchant Banking, 7 of which with Investec Bank Limited – Mining and Resources Division.
Ex- founding shareholder and director of Batsalani Investments (Pty) Ltd. Ex director of the African Lion Fund – mining private equity fund with Investec as one of the founding shareholders.
Extensive experience in leadership, director level and senior management experience in corporate finance, debt advisory and capital arrangement.
He was non-executive chairman of Hitachi Construction Mining Africa for two years.

Olivier Barbeau has been involved as a principal in various corporate finance and advisory firms for over 15 years. He has extensive corporate finance experience, having initiated developed and implemented transactions for listed and unlisted companies.
His primary areas of focus are mining and BEE transactions. In this sector he has a formidable track record of concluding significant transactions, most recently with several major Chinese State Owned Entities.
Olivier is a registered Chartered Accountant in South Africa and Mauritius. This has enabled him to advise several multinational businesses on their offshore structures.

Rowan has nearly 3 decades of collective experience in the resources and investment banking industries.
Rowan was a founding shareholder and Managing Director of Shanduka Resources, which he helped develop from a start-up in 2002 until his departure in 2012.
Key milestones at Shanduka Resources included significant investments in Mondi Shanduka Newsprint, Mondi Packaging, Kangra Coal, Shanduka Coal (with Glencore), Pan African Resources, DRA, Lonmin (through Incwala), Assore, and Lace Diamonds. Rowan's post investment involvement included his representation at the executive committees and boards for most of the investee companies, including an executive directorship of the Shanduka Group.
Before Shanduka, Rowan was a director of Investec Bank's Mining Finance team in Johannesburg, and worked on a number of debt and equity based transactions in the sub saharah region.
He also worked for Swiss based Societe Generale de Surveillance in Geneva, which entailed the management of audits on mineral consignments throughout the world, and he started his career as a valuation geologist at the Harmony Gold mine.
Rowan holds a B.Science Honours from the Witwatersrand University, and a B. Commerce Honours from the University of South Africa.

Anton Millar is Principal and owner of TSC Capital, a private investment and advisory entity primarily focusing on arranging, advising , participating in and managing private equity investments - predominantly in mining services.
A chartered accountant with over 20 years in financial markets covering all aspects of Investment Banking.
Anton was Managing Director and responsible for the Corporate and Investment Banking Division in South Africa at Absa Capital, part of Barclays Capital. Prior to joining Absa Capital, Anton was joint head of Specialised Finance for South Africa at Investec Bank.
Anton has been involved in all aspects of advisory, M&A, equity raising, cross border financing, asset based finance, acquisition finance, equity linked finance and all aspects of debt capital markets across most sectors

Brent Oil Africa has key storage capacity in Beira, pipeline capacity and storage capacity in Msasa, Harare. It has obtained key contracts with clients in Zambia and the DRC.
With its sound pipeline and well-located storage capacity, Zimbabwe is critical as a logistical gateway for distributing petroleum products to various SADC countries.

Hall Core Drilling
Hall Core is a contract drilling company focusing exclusively on drilling for the mining and water industries. The business was started in early 2000 with a single drill rig. Today, Hall Core owns and operates 50 drill rigs, employs 250 people and drills for all major African commodities, including gold, uranium, platinum, iron ore and coal. The company also has an entrenched track record drilling for what is fast becoming one of the scarcest commodities, fresh water. Brait is now a significant shareholder in the business
